Contract Research - Transition Radiation experiments

Back in 2004 Adelphi helped one of its customers with some Transistion Radiation research, looking into a new type of soft x-ray laser. We ran some experiements at a linac at the Naval Postrgraduate Scool in Monterey.

Adelphi’s founder, Melvin Piestrup, performed some of the seminal work on Transition Radiation. One of Adelphi’s customers was investigating its use as a potential light source. For this work, the customer fabricated some devices which were irradiated with high energy electrons from a linac. We rented time on the linac at the Naval Postgraduate School, in Monterey California and worked with them to make some measurements of 13.5nm light that was produced.
