  • I2C - I-squared-C, Inter-Integrated Circuit
  • IGES - Initial Graphics Exchange Specification, a 3D graphics file
  • I.D. - Inside Diameter
  • ICONS - Intense COmpact Neutron Source (the name of a DARPA project we participated in)
  • keV - kilo electron Volts (a unit of energy), 1keV = 1,000 eV = 1.6021818×10-16 J
  • LaBr - Lanthanum Bromide (gamma ray detector)
  • Linac - Linear Accelerator
  • LNA - Low Noise Amplifier (RF)
  • MCA - Multichannel analyzer
  • MCNP - Monte Carlo Neural Particle (neutron transport code, https://mcnp.lanl.gov/)
  • MCNPX - Visual editing variant of MCNP
  • MeV - Mega electron Volts (a unit of energy), 1MeV = 1,000,000 eV = 1.60218×10-13 J
  • milli Rem /mRem - a unit of radiation dose https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roentgen_equivalent_man
  • MFC - Mass Flow Controller
  • MOSFET - Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor
  • MTF - Modulation Transfer Function (using in imaging to measure resolution)
  • NAA - Neutron Activation Analysis
  • NaI - Sodium Iodide (gamma ray detector/scintillation crystal)
  • NDT - Non Destructive Testing
  • NEG - Non Evaporable Getter
  • NIM - Nuclear instrumentation module
  • IGBT - Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor
  • n/s - Neutrons per second
  • N-Type - An RF connector, also a dopant type for HPGe detectors
  • O.D. - Outside Diameter
  • OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer
  • PGNAA - Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis
  • PMT - Photomultiplier Tube
  • PPS - Personal Protection System
  • RF - Radio Frequency (in this case 2.45 GHz also known as ‘microwaves’)
  • RGA - Residual Gas Analyzer
  • SCCM - Standard Cubic Centimeter per Minute (1 SCCM = 1 cm³/min at STP)
  • SBIR - Small Business Innovative Research
  • SCR - Silicon Controlled Rectifier
  • SEE - Single Event Effects (a radiation damage term)
  • SF6 - Sulfur Hexafluoride
  • SiPM - Silicon PhotoMultiplier
  • SMA - Subminiature Version A connector (a co-axial connector)
  • SMB - Subminiature Version B connector (a co-axial connector)
  • SNM - Special Nuclear Materials
  • SPI - Serial Peripheral Interface
  • STP - Standard Temperature and Pressure
  • STEP - Step file (*.stp or *.step), a 3D graphics file format (ISO 10303-21)
  • STTR - Small business Technology Transfer Research
  • SWaP - Size Weight and Power
  • TID - Total Ionizing Dose (a radiation damage term)
  • TNR - Thermal Neutron Radiography
  • TSSOP - Thin Shrink Small Outline Package (an Integrated Circuit)
  • TTL - Transistor Transistor Logic ("high"=5V, "low"=0V)
  • VAC - Volts, Alternating Current
  • VBA - Visual Basic for Applications
  • VCO - Voltage Controlled Oscillator (part of an RF source)
  • VDC - Volts, Direct Current
  • VGA - Variable Gain Amplifier (part of an RF source)
