The generator is ideal for making mapped images of gamma emission from fast neutron scattering. The combination of neutron, alpha and gamma detection allows for imaging the elemental composition of objects. This can be used for non-destructive evaluation, forensics, materials science and the detection of contraband.
When deuterium and tritium atoms fuse on the target of the generator, both an alpha-particle and a neutron are emitted simultaneously
in opposing directions. A scintillator provides an optical signal to determine the location and the direction of the alpha particle.

*Tritium is a radioactive gas. The U.S. Nucelear Regulator Comission reglations require that US customers possess a licence authorizing possession of tritium. Futher details of licensing requirements are available at their website here.
